I have too many books. The bookshelf I have now is full and I need a new one. I spent hours searching for something I liked at a reasonable price range. I came across a modular unit designed by Marc Newson that was out of my price range at tens of thousands of dollars, but it gave me the inspiration to create my own. I hadn’t worked with sheet metal before and after learning more about it, I started designing. My initial design wasn’t feasible because of the manufacturing constraints of the service I would use, so I learned more about how sheet metal can be joined and settled on a combination of flat and corner pieces that could be fastened together with simple hardware. I made several different sizes and dimensions that could seamlessly fit together and build on top and beside each other. Based on individual needs, this bookcase can be expanded infinitely or customized to perfectly fit a certain space. I wanted to include several color options because I love bold colors in furniture. Customers would be able to buy individual pieces to create their own unique bookshelf to fit their home or office aesthetic.
