I’ve always been interested in making furniture. I’ve made coffee tables, kitchen islands and dining room tables for friends. I like the idea of someone having something in their house that they use often made by someone else who loves them. I hope it’s a reminder of our friendship. As I continue to think about design, I thought it would be interesting to think about how furniture can be assembled without tools or hardware. Inspired by a Wyoming fence, I began to design a coffee table. When I continued to iterate, I found that the design ended up resembling the Off-White logo, so I focused on continuing down that path. I’m familiar with the work that Virgil Abloh has done with Ikea, so I thought that the flat ship Ikea design would pair well with Off-White. Each wooden leg fits together with a notch, then two metal pieces slide together to create the support. Once the wooden legs are fit into the metal support, using only friction and physics, the table will support the glass top by itself. As a finishing touch, I made a piece that would fit into the wooden leg at the end to make the arrow logo easier to see and make sure that the table stays fit together with one long screw on each side. While I haven’t been able to prototype this design in the shop, I think it would work well as a higher end Ikea and Off-White collaboration piece.
